The price for all this is $27, which is a pretty good deal. The books seem well written and include a ton of pictures, diagrams and step by step instructions. The second part of the book also contains a lot of useful ideas that can be applied to life beyond skateboarding. What this package lacks is killer video content, which seems a bit odd since it does include a guide on how to make one.

Scouring online, I did manage to find a number of customers who were happy with what they got out of “Secrets of Skateboarding”. Since it is a 140 page book with way more words than pictures, I can see parents choosing this book as a way to encourage literacy in their heshy kids. Some of the more experienced skaters also seemed to like the second part of the book which reads more like a motivational self empowerment book than a skater manual.

The biggest problems that people seem to have with secrets of skateboarding are the lack of videos and the author’s nonexistent street cred. In a number of different skateboard forums I found members commenting on Tony Waters. They seemed to all wonder why such an underground phenom failed to make at least a few videos to show off what he can do. These critics of “Secrets of Skate Boarding” do not believe that you can merely read your way into skating success. Others point out that Tony seems to be watching skateboard videos made by others and then simply writing down what he sees.

While these points are valid, the book has received some glowing reviews by a number of respected members of these same forums. Looking through Tony’s book, I also believe that this book can be an asset to many beginners. The instructions are clear and reading it along with watching videos and practicing a lot could indeed be the formula for success.
