The makers of SA Shield (the SA stands for Secret Agent, by the way) offer a free trial download of their product as well as a 56-day money-back guarantee if you decide to purchase the program. Support is available in the form of e-mail contact, and SA Shield promises to protect your computer from a variety of online trickery in the meantime.

Although the SA Shield website tries to scare you into purchasing spyware protection software, we do believe that their product legitimately does what it promises. SA Shield offers protection from threats like spyware, adware, worms, viruses, and hijackers. In addition, SA Shield is set up to download automatic updates and perform regular scans so that you computer is continuously protected. Finally, SA Shield quarantines files they view as tainted rather than deleting them, so if an important file is inadvertently quarantined, you still have access to your information.

Overall, we found the SA Shield website to be informative and helpful, although the tone was a bit juvenile for our taste. There are plenty of Internet-savvy patrons who realize the dangers of spyware and adware, which means that SA Shield is likely not marketing their appeal to these customers. In addition to their basic product, SA Shield also offers the add-on products “Cleaner” and “Vault,” but don’t provide much information regarding the tools included in these extra programs.

We do see SA Shield as a product that is backed up by its manufacturer and we’re certain that SA Shield provides a middle-ground protection program for your computer. For $24.95, SA Shield will help defend your computer from online pests, although it’s neither the most thorough nor the most convincing product on the market.

Detailed Ratings

Pros
• SA Shield provides basic spyware and adware protection at a reasonable price, just $24.95 for the basic package.
• Your purchase of SA Shield comes with a 56-day money-back guarantee.
• SA Shield also offers a free trial download so you can determine if this product is what you’re looking for.
• SA Shield blocks, removes, and repairs issues related to spyware, adware, and other harmful malware.
• Once your payment is approved, you immediately have access to SA Shield via a customer e-mail with a registration number.
Cons
• We don’t agree with the “scare tactics” SA Shield uses to convince you that you need spyware, although their slogan, “Technology for Peace of Mind” is quite catchy.
• It’s unclear how long the free trial or the purchase version of SA Shield last.
