The price for this guide is 29.99 which is about average for a downloadable product. I have also seen strategy guides for other games sell for two to three times as much. But, then again, those games do happen to be much more popular than this one.

Checking in with the Star Trek online forums to see what actual players thought of this Guide, I found that some of them seem to think of it as a joke. Most seemed to assume that it was probably already out of date. They also poked fun at the the fact that it actually cost just as much as the game itself. In defense of the STO Mastery Guide, most leveling guides tend to cost more than the initial download of the game. It is true that Admiral Will C.'s product has been around for over two years but most digital products like this are generally upgraded as new things come out.

While this guide does not rank too high among other similar products, it does seem to do okay in terms of sales. STO Mastery also has a pretty low customer return rate, meaning those who did buy it felt they got their money's worth. One customer did comment that the leveling portion of the guide was a little thin, but according to other players, leveling in the game is not as important as it is in other games (such as WOW).

Looking at what the guide has to offer, and reading all the comments, I do not think that Admiral Will's guide is really a scam. While a lot of players scoff at the idea of needing a guide, I think others benefit from them. While the guide does not offer anything fancy such as In game Mods or Video Guides, it probably does a decent job of explaining things.
